The Mathematics Behind Nepali GPA Calculations

Nepal's National Examinations Board (NEB) and Curriculum Development Center (CDC) introduced the standardized Letter Grading Directive 2078 to align with international academic metrics. In earlier models, simple percentage averages were often mistaken for GPA; however, modern grading strictly evaluates results through Credit-Hour Weighted Averages.

In Grade 11 & 12, each subject is bifurcated into distinct Theoretical (Th) and Practical/Internal (Pr) allocations. For instance, in Science stream, Core Subjects carry a total of 5.00 Credit Hours, divided into 3.75 CH for Theory and 1.25 CH for Practical. The official formula implemented by PREMSTHA is:

Total GPA = Σ [ (GP_Theory × CH_Theory) + (GP_Practical × CH_Practical) ] / Total Credit Hours

PREMSTHA guarantees 100% compliance with these exact weightages, ensuring your admissions eligibility, scholarship evaluations, and IOE/CEE requirements are accurately projected.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How is the final GPA calculated for Class 10 (SEE)?
For SEE Class 10, each subject holds an assigned credit weightage (typically 4.0 credit hours). The tool multiplies the grade point of your grade (e.g. A+ = 4.0, A = 3.6) by the subject credit hours, sums all subjects, and divides by the total credit hours (32 CH).
What happens if I get 'NG' (Not Graded) in one subject?
Under the CDC 2078 directive, scoring below 35% in either the theoretical exam (under 26.25 marks out of 75) or internal practical (under 8.75 marks out of 25) results in a 'Not Graded' (NG) status. Students with NG must participate in grade increment (chance) examinations.
Can I add or remove elective subjects?
Yes! You can choose the Custom stream or click the "+ Add Another Subject" button on any preset to tailor the calculator to your exact elective and optional subject combination.
